On any given day you will probably get multiple e-mails about buying tools to run your online business – and see the ads on Facebook, as well. Do you need SamCart? Clickfunnels? Ontrapoint? Aweber? Can these tools solve your online marketing problems?
Tools to Run Your Online Business Don’t Replace Your Marketing Strategy
Is it really necessary for you to buy all the new tools that are coming out online entrepreneurs? It can be overwhelming and confusing to sort out all of the offers you’re getting. And sometimes you might think “let me get it before it gets more expensive.” You’ve got FOMO (fear of missing out).
In this 7 minute video I give you 4 key questions that help you decide about tools to run your online business.
I see online entrepreneurs making decisions based on the sales copy for these tools, or buying the “good deal now” price. Here are 4 questions that might help you.
4 Questions To Ask Before Buying a New Online Tool
- Do you really need it? Had you been considering an upgrade before you got this one-time-deal offer in your e-mail box? This might be the case if you’ve been using a free or very inexpensive solution, your business has grown, and you need to invest in a bigger, faster, better solution.
- How will you use what it says it will do? Are you prepared, if the tool is new, to face constant changes and upgrades as the developer works out the kinks? Do you need this capability?
- Can you afford it easily? If your business cannot afford what’s being offered you would, in my opinion, be better off to concentrate on sales and come back when you have the money. This is especially true if the tool has an ongoing monthly cost.
- Do you have team members who can set the new tool up and help you implement it? Many of these tools are complex and require some expertise to work with. Before you decide you’re going to buy it and figure it all out on your own, remember that your job is customer service and marketing. You can’t afford to hide behind your computer for days figuring something out.
Are you buying tools to run your online business thinking that your marketing will take care of itself if you’ve got these shiny bells and whistles? Tools will not take the place of marketing. They will not make sales for you. You’ve got to have clarity about who you are, what you offer, your value ladder, and your price points – in fact you’ll need all of that (and more) to set up many of these tools. You will stumble with implementation because they will point out where your business is weak.
Tools are not the answer if you are not focused, clear, committed, and consistent in your business. Online tools won’t take the place of you being the leader of your business.
