Be Number One To Your Clients

May 3, 2015 by Sue Painter 10 Comments

become number one to your clientsWhy am I writing this week about being number one to your clients? This coming Sunday will be my very first Mother’s Day without my mom, who passed away in March. I always called her “Number One Mom” and back in time actually found a gold necklace that said #1 Mom. It became her Mother’s Day gift that year. Mom was so pleased with the necklace that for many years she never took it off. I found her #1 Mom necklace in her things as Bill and I were cleaning out her apartment.

I know what made my mom number one to me. Do you know what it would take to be number one in the eyes of your clients and customers? What can you provide to each one to make them feel you are the absolute number one provider of what you do, second to no one else? Being number one to your clients means that they will keep you top of mind when they need what you offer again and again.

Here are a few ideas for you:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service and check back to make sure your clients are happy and satisfied.
  • Give something just a little extra – a book to read, some content you have on hand that will be helpful.
  • Thank your clients for working with you.
  • Ask for feedback.
  • Remember clients on special occasions.
  • Send an encouraging word to them now and then.
  • Be dependable.
  • Be completely trustworthy.

None of this is rocket science, really. I don’t think that what my mom did was all that different from many other moms. More than anything, I knew I could count on her no matter what. She was trustworthy and dependable. Her word was golden. I knew that she took a keen interest in my life. You can do all these things for your clients and keep a great word of mouth vibe going for yourself and your business. You’ll be number one to your clients, and your business with continue to thrive.

You can read more about how to create top of mind awareness in this article and in one of my previous blog posts.

Sue, my deepest condolences to you. I know how much you loved your sweet mother. She must have been a jewel because she sure raised you right! I like all of her (and your rules.) Thank YOU for the reminders to send thank you’s to all of my clients! One thing that worked well this year was throwing a Valentine appreciation breakfast in their honor. I think I will make that an annual tradition!
