Is Building an Online Business a Guarantee of Quick Success?
There’s a lot of misinformation and misleading advertising in every industry, and the online industry is no exception. I’ve seen hundreds of online launches and advertisements that talk about building an online business and getting instant results. And I’ve worked with a few clients who expect that kind of instant success. They immediately want to see results.
Not long ago, I used my Masterclass All Access Pass to take Annie Leibovitz’s class on photography. (If you haven’t checked into Masterclass online courses, here’s my own affiliate link for their All Access Pass. And if you’re interested only in Annie’s class, use this affiliate link.)
Annie built her own business as America’s foremost portrait photographer, and she has maintained her business and become world famous in the 40 plus years she’s been at it. She’s photographed almost everybody who is anybody in the world, including the Queen of England.
In this short video, I talk about the dangers of expecting instant success in your online business, and whether it’s actually possible or not. Annie learned that the “old” process of developing film in a dark room actually taught her something about her craft that newer photographers don’t get, and it has to do with time and observation. I see parallels to building an online business, and when you watch this video, I think you will, too. Here you go.
I say to my clients all the time “all business is an experiment” and it is! You put something out there with your very best effort and you wait to see what develops. It may fail, it may succeed, it may succeed but not to the extent that you really wished that it would succeed. Part of being a business owner is going back and reworking something that hasn’t done as well as you expected.
When I talk to a potential new client, and that person says, “I’m all about building an online business to six figures in 30 days,” I know that unless they’ve already done a lot of work to prove their concept, we’ve got to talk about their own view of the online world.
Instant success is not a guarantee. And even if you are lucky enough to have instant success, instant success is more than likely in the online world not going to last for a long period of time.
I’ve worked with online business owners for well over a decade. I’m all about building an online business in the simplest and most affordable way. You can get a set of questions I use with my own clients by going to confidentmarketer.com and leaving your name and email address – we’ll send the questions and worksheets right to you. You can also read about the number one habit of successful online entrepreneurs in this blog post.
I’d love your comments about your own success and what you’ve done toward building your online business, so please comment, and I’ll be sure to read and respond.
