My friend Lynn Terry of Clicknewz is one of the top affiliate marketers in the industry, and has a sterling reputation for giving value and great content to her followers. I asked Lynn about how often an Internet marketer can hit their list – here’s my question and Lynn’s smart and wise answer.
Question: To be successful in affiliate marketing, you have to get your offers in front of your list. How do you decide when to make offers to your list? In other words, how often is OK and how often is too much in your experience?
Lynn’s response: Great question. It really depends on the list, the market, and what those subscribers signed up for initially. If they signed up for a monthly newsletter they should get a newsletter each month. If they signed up for a daily tip, they should get a tip every day. Some markets are larger and more active, while some are smaller with less activity. Since “it depends” is the generic answer here, you really have to go with a little common sense. Consider your market, your individual subscriber, how you can best help them, etc. That will give you your guidelines.
With a customer follow-up list, even if it’s a free download, it’s ideal to use an autoresponder. People are creatures of habit by nature. Most people get online at the same time every day, or read email at the same time every day. With an autoresponder you can catch them at those ideal times by setting a follow-up email to go out 24 hours later, or 3 days later.
While a mailing list is an important part of an online business, I also use SEO as one of my primary marketing methods. This allows me to reach people when they are searching for something – instead of hoping I catch them at the right time with it in their inbox. SEO is Search Engine Optimization, and basically means to get your web page ranking well in the major search engines for a specific keyword phrase. This is currently my top source for traffic and sales.
There you have it – a quick lesson in “list use” by a true expert. Thanks, Lynn!
