Two questions my readers e-mailed to me had to do with getting more out of their time, delegating and when to do it, and what tools I use in my business. Here’s my answers – about 8 minutes long.
Main points:
- Main reasons people don’t delegate well
- The one rule that sets your priority for each day
- The organizational tools Sue uses in her business.

Learning what not to do in our biz is just as important as knowing what to do. I need to look into EverNote. Great tips Sue.

Sue,
Time management and delegation are vital. I am still a HUGE fan of Franklin/Covey planners and started using them before they merged.
Write on!~

I also love the Daily Planner Pad idea. Thanks Sue!
Great reminder, Sue!! I may have some “control freak” in me and am working on letting go. If I had my choice, I’d be out and about ALL the time! I liked your advice on if you are not getting out, you must not be clear on your message…I agree with that completely!
Great distinction, Sue, between what you should do and what you should delegate! And I love Evernote, but don’t use it for a to-do list. I prefer Dooster, net instead because I can create recurring tasks for my team.
Haven’t tried Dooster, need to check it out. Thanks, Donna!
Its funny you mentioned social media with time-management when business owners don’t have a strategy or online plan they may think this activity is not adding to their bottom line. However in my opinion, driving traffic is equally as important to building relationships as meeting for coffee. 🙂
Tonya,
Driving traffic is important, but the follow-through to having the traffic is to move forward to build relationship. I agree with you that an online plan is necessary, I’ve seen many small business owners hide behind hours and hours of social media at their computer and fail to monetize all that time at all.

Follow the money 😉 Katherine
Sue, great points about being “the face of your business” and delegation. Thanks for the reminder about Evernote! I have heard such great things about that.
Mary Ellen,
You’re welcome about Evernote. I had to force myself to study it, now I use it constantly.

Great stuff Sue. I always tell potential clients to make a list of what they do during the day and decide what they can/should delegate. Back end stuff should be delegated so they can focus on money making tasks.
It may sound strange, but when I was in leadership positions in the corporate life, one of the things that taught me the most about coaching was the actual, real concept of delegation. I’m sure this applies somehow to the self-employed, but what I learned was that delegation is only effective for all concerned when I assigned a task to an individual because of that person’s strength. Of course, you are describing ‘why’ this applies to the self-employed in this video.
Thanks for the great tips Sue – prioritising money making tasks is a good focal point!
The are great points about time management and using delegation tools. Love the Daily Planner Pad idea. Thanks, Sue!
Thanks, Lisa, Planner Pad is great and I’ve just about tried them all, LOL!
