Great tips, Sue. That flyer is so poorly put together that I would question it’s legitimacy. I would be worried that it was a scam. He could definitely use some help.

      Hi Tiffany,
I knew it wasn’t a scam, honestly I think a scam might look better, LOL! But you’re right, he does need help.

This just highlights that old adage, spelling counts. Thanks for sharing what not to do and how to look at what you’ve created with critical eyes.

Wow! Those are some serious mistakes. You were very kind in your analysis and it will be helpful to those who don’t realize they are doing the same things. Your first impression has to be great! I always wonder about “looking through the customer’s eyes.” Sometimes, because I have so much information that I’ve been teaching for so many years, I can’t put myself in the eyes of a brand new customer. That’s why your second point has helped me immensely! I have someone else read it.

      Hi Jessica,
Yes, I totally agree that when you have done something over and over again it is difficult to step “outside the box” and look at your marketing materials with “customer eyes.” Using an outside person (even a spouse) can point out stuff that you just don’t see yourself.

Great tips on how the realtor could have improved his marketing Sue.
Rather than assuming that his target market is purely local I think he hasn’t thought about his target market full stop!

RIght – in that part of Florida almost no buyer is local.

Review your ads and ALL marketing through your customers’ eyes!!

It is the simple things like that that can make a HUGE difference.

Thanks for digging in with a detailed break-down of what was wrong and what could be done better.

    You rock, Sue!

    Love,

Companies that do the best job at marketing, in my opinion, actually spend less than the competition. I’ve been looking through how-to marketing guides and the strategy sections only seem to have big budget channels like advertising, sponsorship, etc.

      Hi Jill,
I don’t agree that marketing requires a big budget, especially not for a service-oriented small business. There are a number of totally free resources on the internet, including many other of my blog posts. Hope that will be helpful for you.
