Trends in Online Marketing – Will They Work for You Long Term?

5 Trends in Online Marketing and How They Rate

Here’s my latest video about the trends in online marketing versus the basics that will never fail you. To read the text and to find more resources, see below.

All of us as small business owners look for ways to expand our visibility and reach. This is why when anything new comes along, you’ll find those who will jump over to the new thing and declare that THIS one new thing is the answer to more visibility and profits.

Except that it isn’t.

I’m not sure I could even name all the social media platforms and systems that have come and gone.

  • Platforms for live stream (pretty much, it’s all on Facebook now – even YouTube is taking a dive in reach)
  • Launch systems (from free courses to the huge “4 video launch”) are not performing as well as they did when they were new
  • Video (still effective if done right) has gone from 1 hour to 4 minutes to 2 minutes to 1 minute “guaranteed to get the most engagement”
  • Graphics (still photographs) have moved from stock photo to personalized and natural
  • Chat bots are the mega-trend right now, even though many consumers don’t like them.

The point is, you can spend a ton of time chasing the latest trends in online marketing. What really works long term? What can you sink your time and money into that will build results for you over the long term? Because, if you are like me, you’re in business for the long term.

Two things. Two things are basic building blocks of your business and if you do them right, they will build your visibility and reach. You can add all the trendy stuff if you want to, but don’t neglect these two basics.

  • Email marketing
  • Blogging

It’s humorous to me that many of the big “do this new thing” gurus are NOW turning back to these two things. Why? Because they work. Because they never go away. Because they are two solid, long term efforts that give you long term results.

About a year ago I built an e-mail marketing course called “Building Your List for Success and Impact.” I’ve owned The Confident Marketer for almost 14 years now, and I can promise you that paying attention to your email marketing is one thing that will sustain you through good times and bad. I’d like for you to understand what to do to use e-mail effectively in your business. Here’s the link to check out complete online course: https://listbuildingforimpact.com/.

No matter the trends in online marketing, never forget the basics. E-mail marketing is core for you, whether you are an online entrepreneur or a brick and mortar business. You can add and subtract other methods of marketing, but don’t let this core strategy languish.

Have you tried a certain email marketing strategy that worked well for you? If so, please share your experience below.

For your existing list of subscribers, here’s how to engage them best.
