Website Planning – A Checklist for Thinking About Website Design

July 28, 2013 by Sue Painter 11 Comments

I’m the middle of re-doing one of my older websites, suepainter.com.  Because so many business owners tell me they get overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, I’m sharing my thought process and a checklist (see below) in this 12 minute video.  I’ve put the checklist and resources mentioned in this video in a download, if you’d like it just leave your name and email below and I’ll send to to you – along with my weekly ezine of tips and resources.

If my checklist would be helpful to you, leave your name and e-mail below and it’ll show up in your e-mail box right away.

Sue – The strategy and planning of a site is critical … and that starts with just getting your ideas out of your head and organizing them. I love that you mention bringing your team in on the process as well, as different perspectives definitely offer a more comprehensive approach.

    Sue,
Great video. So many people struggle with this. Planning, strategy and is so important. Project planning with the team is also vital.

Sue, excellent point about bringing in team members to get their input. I also like the “experiential” concept. Thanks too for the tips on IFO’s. It was very interesting to hear the difference between your two brands. I like your opt in offer. It looks great! These are excellent tips Sue. One question, do you need to trademark your tagline?

      Hi Mary Ellen,
If your tagline is able to be trademarked I’m all for it. Sometimes businesses change tags now and then – but you could trademark more than one. The process takes a while, though.

I recently redid my website and certainly could have used some of this information as I went through the process. I’m going to keep this in mind for down the road when revisions are necessary. Thanks for a great video.

This is a very thorough checklist, Sue! I definitely agree with the need to get your team on board at the beginning of the project so that everyone is on the same page. It also helps when you’re trying to maximize your time, energy, and resources. I can’t wait to see your brand new site!

Thanks, Tiffany. Hopefully in about another week I’ll be replacing the old site with the new.
