What did you do when Facebook and Instagram Crashed?
When social media dies, as it did when Facebook and Instagram both crashed at the same time, you probably felt a little panicked. Suddenly, it was impossible to quickly reach out and touch your friends and customers. All of us use social media as a strategy to gain reach and visibility, but when social media dies we are dead, too. What business strategies can save you?
In this video I talk about the sole purpose you should be using social media in your business. If you do it right, you won't be totally panicked when social media outages occur, as they surely will now and then.
Here's what to remember when social media dies
- Your followers on social media don't count as a business asset – you can't sell that list of names.
- Your sole reason for being on social media is to move your followers into subscribers to your own email list.
- You can use other strategies to build visibility and name recognition besides social media
- There's nothing wrong with using social media so long as you don't depend on it to the exclusion of everything else
In the video I give you a list of ways to gain attention to your business that don't rely on social media. I think it's a smart strategy to use at least one of them in addition to what you're doing on social.
In the past few months I've seen two businesses who relied completely on Instagram to gain followers and find buyers go out of business. Why? In both cases their Instagram accounts were hacked, and they lost the ability to contact their followers. Social media died for them, and their business felt an immediate effect.
Using social media, combined with other business strategies, can help build your business. Don't ever rely on social media alone. Your account can disappear without warning.
