Leadership in Business Requires More Than We Are Taught
Tony Robbins says “the path to success is to take massive, determined action.” Usually, when I fail at something it’s because I take action, but that action is not massive or determined. It’s not enough – maybe a $5 ad on Facebook instead of a $100 ad. Or calling 5 people about working with me instead of 20 people.
Or, perhaps the action is not determined. I might invest in a program or a diet, but then quit when it becomes inconvenient, or allow myself to get sidetracked and busy with other things.
Tony is right. Leadership in business or in your own life requires more than just action. You can be an action taker and still not get what you say you want. It has to be massive and determined action – which means no excuses. That’s what does the trick.
It’s hard to keep that kind of energy up if you are surrounded by others who don’t live at that same level. They will subtly do their damnedest to slow you down, to keep you at their energy level – because your slowing down and coming to their energy level helps them stay where they are – stuck, unsuccessful, whiny, full of excuses, not performing to their ability, living from a place of fear and wanting always to feel safe. You absolutely WILL get stuck in their muck.
To be an action taker at the massive, determined level means you’ve got to free yourself of those who want to stay comfortable, those who have settled for whatever life brings, those who are recliner-ready, those whose biggest fear in life is that their TV won’t work. Those who have a different vision for their life, and you let their vision become YOUR vision.
When you let someone else’s vision become your vision, here’s what happens. You live where you don’t want to live, you work where you don’t want to work, you tolerate stuff in your life that you don’t want in your life. Then you say to yourself, “I wish I could have that.” You CAN have that. With massive, determined action.
I like Tony’s book Notes from a Friend: A Quick and Simple Guide to Taking Charge of Your Life. You can get it in bookstores or from Amazon using this affiliate link. It’s a great book to help all of us grow our leadership in business and in life. And to help us take the massive, determined action that leadership requires.

Great post Sue. This is so true! What I find keeps me from taking massive action is fear. Fear that it will not work, fear that it’s not necessary, fear that I’m not ready. Thankfully, my whole family, my husband and my friends are fully supportive, their vision for me is actually bigger than mine. Thanks for this loving reminder! Hugs!
You’re welcome, Mari. Fear comes up when we are up to bigger things – it’s natural. Just have to acknowledge it and move forward.
